GROF MOTO 13 - Vipavska dolina and Postojna
This exciting motorcycle tour takes you through a variety of Slovenian landscapes, from the hilly roads of Zasavje, through the green Karst, to the Mediterranean charm of the Goriška region, before returning via the scenic valleys of central Slovenia. Due to the diverse terrain and road conditions, this tour is suitable for riders with some experience. The sections between Postojna and Cerknica have some challenging curves, as well as the descents towards Trbovlje, where extra caution is advised.
The journey begins at Hotel Grof, heading towards Trojane, famous for its delicious doughnuts. After a pleasant start, we continue through Domžale towards Vrhnika, where we can visit the sources of the Ljubljanica River. The ride then takes us towards Ajdovščina, where the Mediterranean climate becomes more noticeable. From Ajdovščina, we ride to Nova Gorica, a city right on the Italian border, before continuing to Šempeter pri Gorici. We then turn inland towards Senožeče and Postojna, where it's worth stopping to visit the famous Postojna Cave or Predjama Castle.
The road leads us to Cerknica, home to the fascinating intermittent Cerknica Lake, and then on to Grosuplje. A more winding section follows through Šmartno pri Litiji, before the road opens up again, leading through Trbovlje, one of Slovenia's most historic industrial towns. The tour continues towards Marija Reka and Prebold, before returning to the starting point at Hotel Grof.
Tour Tips:
- Consider stopping in Postojna to explore the famous cave and castle.
- Take in the panoramic view in Nova Gorica, overlooking the Slovenian-Italian border.
- Be prepared for quick weather changes, especially in the Karst and mountainous areas.
- The roads around Cerknica and Trbovlje can be slippery, so adjust your speed accordingly.
